This email comes to you from Banjul in GAMBIA.
Guinea was a transit for us. We have all been here before with Ungowa in 2015-2016 - back then we spent both Christmas and New Year in Guinea and this time we spent New Year’s here for the second time in exactly 4 years - what a co-incidence !!!
It took us two days to drive 900km from Freetown in SIERRA LEONE to Bissau in Guinea-Bissau via most of GUINEA in between and we spent overnight and New Year’s Eve in Labe in GUINEA during the journey - it takes this long because the roads are shit - a lot of gravel and broken bitumen, fall of pot holes. Most people drive on the gravel shoulders because the actual bitumen is so bad in the middle.
Conakry, the capital of GUINEA is the worst city we have ever seen - nothing to see, no museums, no monuments - just dust, heat, humidity, garbage and loads of traffic !!!
The GUINEA countryside on the other hand is nice - it reaches 1200m in altitude making it very dry and cool and pleasant. The people of GUINEA are vey nice. GUINEA is a former French colony with independence coming in 1956.
